A dream-like sequence commentary upon the traits of artists in society. Prosthetic make-up is applied to the mouth and to the ears, sealing them from use by the artist. This represents the visual artist’s demands upon them to only see and interpret with their hands, not through conversation and expression otherwise. Ribbons attached to the artist’s hands symbolize the balance between demand and artists capability. A patron can give a demand, but if the demands are too great and all at once, the required task cannot be completed. The same turkey sandwiches represent the lack of originality from one work of art to the next by artists. Each piece that is asked for is thought to be unique, however, it is really the same pieces put together to suit the patron. The artist as a white figure is meant to blend the artist into the stereotyped atmosphere of the white wall gallery. |
